Puget Sound STC Chapter Web Site

Options and Opinions

We are trying to decide on how to proceed with our web site - http://www.stc-psc.org. This is the web site for the Puget Sound chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC)., a professional organization of technical writers, technical communicators, illustrators, and user experience professionals.

Currently our site is made up of .php pages that were quickly put together when our Plone site  failed a few months ago. Plone is a free open source content management system that requires a good deal of technical know how to maintain. The Plone site made it easy for chapter memebers to enter and update information. The .php is easier to maintain but is more difficult for members to update.

As we decide whether to go back to Plone, continue with the .php pages, or consider another alternative, we also want to determine what features users want on their web site. Understanding what the users of our web site want will help drive the answer to the technical questions of what technology we use to deploy the web site.

This wiki is one way we hope to gather information. Tells us what do you think by adding your comments.

Thanks,

Charlie Kyle
